On Wednesday, 19 August, the Green Business Committee convened to discuss key updates on renewable energy certificates, rooftop solar regulations, and upcoming leadership elections.
Key Highlights:
- Progress on Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs): Following EuroCham’s recommendations at the PPSD 4 in June, MME confirmed they are collaborating with the Asian Development Bank to establish an internationally recognised REC mechanism. Aiming to verify renewable energy usage, which currently accounts for 63% of Cambodia’s installed capacity, this initiative will help local industrial products reduce their carbon footprint and stay globally competitive. - Rooftop Solar Compensation Meters: The Committee followed up on a concern raised by members regarding the timeline for installing compensation meters following the completion of the required inspection. Following the recent workshop on the Principles and Procedures for the Installation and Use of Solar PV Systems on Rooftops in Cambodia, EAC confirmed that the installation of compensation meters will be subject to a 5-working-day Service Level Agreement (SLA) once an installation request has been submitted.
- Upcoming Leadership Elections: To wrap up the session, the EuroCham team outlined the core responsibilities, time commitments, and key benefits of leadership of the Green Business Committee for the next mandate. The team also walked members through the nomination process and voting procedures to ensure complete clarity ahead of the upcoming election.
