On Monday, 22 September, EuroCham’s Garment & Manufacturing Committee Vice-Chairperson Mr. Emerald Am represented the Chamber at Cambodia’s 5th Annual Gender Platform, joining 170 stakeholders from more than 100 organisations, including government, international brands, factories, development partners, and civil society in Phnom Penh.

Held under the theme “From Dialogue to Action: Advancing Gender Equality and Safe Workplaces to Support Cambodia’s LDC Graduation,” the event was jointly organised by GIZ FABRIC and the LABS Initiative in collaboration with ILO Better Factories Cambodia, CARE Cambodia, CGTI, and EuroCham’s Garment & Manufacturing Committee, among others.

Discussions focused on how investment in women’s skills, decent work, and workplace safety can strengthen the GFT sector’s resilience ahead of Cambodia’s 2029 LDC graduation. With women representing a significant share of the sector’s workforce, sessions covered skills development, gender-based violence and harassment grievance mechanisms, the rollout of RISE Respect, and the transition process associated with graduation. A recurring theme across the day was that gender equality and economic competitiveness are not competing priorities: decent work and profitability reinforce one another in modern supply chains.

EuroCham’s Garment & Manufacturing Committee remains an active co-organising partner of the Gender Platform and will continue engaging on workforce development and inclusive growth as key pillars of Cambodia’s LDC graduation strategy.
