On Tuesday, 12 December 2023, the EuroCham Tourism & Hospitality Committee held its last committee meeting of the year to find collective solutions to the current challenges facing the tourism industry. The following points were discussed:
Committee Chairman Jacques G. conducted a survey before the meeting and found that 65% of committee members had lower turnover in 2023 than in 2019, while 80% reported difficulties in recruiting new staff. In addition, members identified the government’s main priorities for the sector as tax incentives, financial support, and marketing campaigns to attract more investors.
The Committee is eagerly anticipating the establishment of the Cambodia Tourism Board, following the Prime Minister’s announcement during the latest Government–Private Sector Forum (G-PSF) in mid-November.
The Siem Reap 2024 campaign represents a first step towards addressing the current challenges facing the tourism sector, as announced during the G-PSF. However, as this campaign is intended as a temporary to medium-term solution, members are looking forward to additional long-term initiatives.
The Committee also finalised its plans for 2024, which include organising a courtesy meeting with the Minister of Tourism and developing a curriculum to strengthen human capital in the tourism industry. The Committee will meet again in early February 2024 to review the progress made.
