EuroCham and its committee leaders visited the Ministry of Commerce for a courtesy call with Minister of Commerce H.E. Mrs. CHAM Nimul and her staff on 3 November, with both sides expressing enthusiasm for a collaborative approach to addressing issues across several sectors.
Key topics discussed included export diversification, increasing FDI, developing new trade policies, and ensuring fair competition for companies facing competition from grey market actors and parallel imports.
Following an opening message by Chairman Tassilo Brinzer, Executive Director Martin Brisson presented the White Book 2024, the Business Confidence Survey, and the Advocacy Compass as collaborative tools for the Ministry of Commerce to consider. Services Coordinator Matthew Pocock highlighted the importance of developing effective trade policies to support business growth, while Automotive Committee Vice-Chairman Kjeld Olsen discussed the need to address unauthorised distributors in the sector.
Fast-Moving Consumer Goods Committee Chairman Darren Ong emphasised the importance of consumer protection, while Digital & Technology Committee Chairman Tomas Pokorny discussed the development of e-commerce in Cambodia. Garment & Manufacturing Committee Chairman Emerald Am concluded by highlighting the efforts needed to strengthen Cambodia’s position as a sourcing destination.
Follow-up meetings were planned to continue working on several of these issues, including discussions on unauthorised imports in the automotive sector.
