The Ministry of Economy and Finance has issued Directive No. 011 formalising the ban on prize-based and reward promotional activities for alcoholic beverages and sugary drinks, following the Royal Government’s decision of 4 May 2026. Producers, importers, and distributors must immediately cease orders for, or production of, packaging offering prizes or rewards of free drinks, however, trade discounts and non-beverage promotional gifts remain permitted within narrowly defined limits.
For the beverage sector, the directive is a meaningful step toward a more level playing field, bringing regulatory clarity to a market where prize-based promotions had long distorted competition.
